Four Lessons from Two Weeks on the Road

I just got back from a two-week speaking tour in Denver and Kentucky, which also included several meetings in New York and New Jersey.

A good friend asked me what I learned while I was away, and I told him to give me a few minutes to think about it.

Here’s what those fourteen days taught me.

Prioritize Your Personal Time

It is easy to get caught up in more and more work, so make sure to set aside quality personal time.

For me, this meant going to a Broadway show with a good friend and watching the Cardinals beat the Rockies.

How You Make People Feel

I spent a good amount of time creating two new lectures with Jon Goldman. We developed a workshop on five psychological business lessons to learn from war, as well as a new framework (PACE) for managing time and delegating.

Ultimately, what people will remember is not the research or even the good stories, but rather how you made them feel.

Create Memorable Experiences

The one thing everyone spoke about after the workshops was an interactive activity about values.

Participants answer a set of questions, take off one shoe, answer another set of questions, take off the other shoe, and then count the steps between them.

It was eye-opening and simply amazing!

Delegate to Empower Others

A final lesson came from home. My 13-year-old took full ownership of our family’s Amazon orders. It may have cost me an extra $100, but I was worry-free and knew the kids got what they wanted. Delegating can be a powerful tool.

Conclusion

My recent trip reinforced a few simple but powerful lessons that apply to both business and life.

Here is a quick summary of the key takeaways:

  • Balance Work and Life: Actively schedule personal time to avoid burnout and stay refreshed.
  • Focus on Emotion: The feeling you leave people with is more memorable than the data you present.
  • Make it Interactive: Engaging, hands-on activities create the most lasting impact.
  • Trust and Delegate: Empowering others frees you up and fosters responsibility.

I’m looking forward to the next tour, and it’s great to be back home in Israel!
